The kneejerk reaction when booting up is, naturally, 'BioShock much?' A quick glance at the cover art of this PC adventure will yield the same: It looks like the tower of Sagorah rises straight out of the ocean in all its art-deco glory. The comparisons end there, thankfully. In fact, you're stranded on -- you guessed it -- a sinking island, whereas Rapture has already been (purposefully) sunk. Walter Jones, a rich octogenarian of 500 pounds who built the palatial hotel/vacation home on Sagorah Island, has apparently fallen to his death off a cliff after someone gave his fancy wheelchair a nasty shove.

Since only Jones' grandchildren, his architect, and his lawyer, plus a couple islanders were around, the recently arrived inspector, Jack Norm, has quite a case on his hands. The situation isn't helped by the terrible weather. Of course, it turns out various parties have grudges against the old man, and the family drama heats up even as your interest in playing the game cools down. Play it again, Sam. The biggest hurdle to full enjoyment is how repetitive things get. For example, there are 10 suspects (the grandchildren have brought their significant others) and Norm asks each one what they think of every other person on the island, with no variation whatsoever in his query.

There are tons of questions like this, questions you will probably ask about 10 times, and you can't skip through to the answer because skipping ahead skips the entire conversation. Not that the relevant portions won't be saved as evidence in your Personal Police Assistant (PPA), but given the fact that you're spending time with the game in the first place, you may want to be privy to what goes on as you play it.

Sinking Island Pc Game

It's just a very walk 'n talk game -- point-and-click with a dynamic cursor. No Chinese puzzle boxes, no tile shifting, no color-coded doors. There are a couple moments near the end, almost as an afterthought ('Hey, we should probably have some puzzles in this game!' ) where you'll have to do more than use a blowtorch or take fingerprints, but not enough to recommend Sinking Island to puzzle fans. No, this game is more for serious amateur sleuths due to the literal combining of clues to solve chunks of the mystery called mandates. A scrap of cloth, a footprint, a box of condoms -- all these items end up as evidence to be compared and stacked up in your PPA clue manager.

This is where walk 'n talk becomes drag 'n drop: each mandate has a specific amount of evidence required to solve it, as shown by the red bar. When the bar is full, you have all the right stuff, but you'll have to pluck it out of the jumbled rows of declarations, documents, photos, prints, and materials from the right side of the screen to fill in the labeled gaps on the left side of the screen. It can be really hard to figure out exactly which items are necessary, especially the declarations, since there are so many, and first, you usually need to compare pieces of evidence, such as fingerprints (which, yes, you'll have to wander around and take off of everyone) to make a point for your case.
